UK-German Connection Success
Congratulations to Glenlola pupils Sarah Zoltan (Year 14) and Holly McNaughton (Year 13), each of whom have been selected after a competitive application process to participate in upcoming youth seminars run by the UK-German Connection this November.
The UK-German Connection is a bilateral government initiative for school and youth links and the aim of their work is to bring young people together from the two countries. They act as a first port-of call for information and advice, provide a dedicated linking service and offer complementary funding for UK-German activity as well as a range of bilateral programmes, trips and seminars.
Sara has been awarded a place on the ‘Peacing it Together 2’ seminar in Leipzig and Berlin, which has been organised in conjunction with NICILT to mark the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and 21 years since the Good Friday/ Belfast Agreement. This seminar will bring together around 50 young people from Northern Ireland and Germany to explore themes surrounding peace beyond borders, growing up in a post-conflict society, and creating a shared future.
Competing against pupils from across the UK, Holly has successfully gained a place at a seminar entitled ‘Sustainable Consumption: Why Our Everyday Choices Matter’. This four-day youth seminar, held in collaboration with the British Embassy in Berlin, will bring together young people from across the UK and Germany to discuss sustainable consumption and the challenges facing consumers are they seek to make sustainable choices.
