Eco Council Celebrates Green Flag Success
Over the past two years, our Eco Council has worked with dedication and enthusiasm towards renewing the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag Award. This internationally recognised accreditation reflects our school’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability.
Throughout this journey, pupils have taken part in a wide range of meaningful and impactful activities. These included organising regular litter picks, adopting and caring for a local nature spot, and promoting responsible recycling through initiatives such as battery collection. The council also led educational workshops on fast fashion, raising awareness of the environmental impact of clothing production and encouraging more sustainable choices.
In addition, practical projects have enhanced biodiversity within the school grounds. Pupils designed and installed bird boxes, hedgehog hotels and insect hotels, helping to create safe habitats for local wildlife and encouraging a greater appreciation of the natural world.
A key part of the process was the use of the innovative MyEarth platform. This online resource enabled the Eco Council to create action cards, complete environmental challenges and carefully track their progress towards achieving the Green Flag. The structured approach helped pupils stay focused, organised and motivated throughout the process.
The council also benefited from the support of David from Live Here Love Here, who visited the school to provide guidance and encouragement. His expertise played an important role in helping the team stay on track and meet the required criteria.
After submitting their evidence, the Eco Council was delighted to learn that the school had successfully renewed its Green Flag status. This achievement was celebrated at an awards ceremony in May, where Miss Harkin, Mr Dorman and several pupil representatives met the Mayor and were presented with the Eco Schools Green Flag and their certificates.
This success is a testament to the hard work, teamwork and commitment of everyone involved. The Eco Council continues to play a vital role in promoting sustainability within the school and inspiring others to take positive action for the environment.
