Former pupil receives award from President Clinton

Shauna Wood, a former pupil who is currently studying Medicine at Queen’s University Belfast, is one of a small number of students from Northern Ireland to have been awarded an All Ireland Scholarship this year.

Shauna travelled to Limerick with her parents at the weekend to accept the Scholarship Certificate from President Bill Clinton at Limerick University.

In his address President Clinton spoke of the opportunities that scholarships had opened to him in his young life and of the enduring value of the education he received as a result and urged those present to use their scholarships to achieve what they could not otherwise have hoped to do.

Headmaster, Mr Eric Thompson, who also attended the ceremony said, “We are all very proud of Shauna who is thoroughly deserving of this scholarship.  It was wonderful to meet with her and her parents in Limerick to catch up, offer congratulations and wish her well in her studies. ”

Shauna, thrilled to win the award, described her achievement in characteristically modest fashion as “completely unexpected”.
