AS Psychology Revision Conference 2015

Psychology Revision Conference 2015, QUB

A Psychology revision conference aimed at AS level students was held at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) in mid April. This was the 18th annual conference of its kind, organised by the Association for Psychology Teachers.  It was attended by students from a range of schools and Further Education colleges.  The main speaker was a very high profile guest – former principal examiner for AQA Psychology examinations and published author – Julia Willerton. This was an opportunity not to be missed! Fifteen AS students were keen to attend as part of their intensive revision of the AS course. The programme of the day included presentations on these topics (amongst others):

  • Abnormality – Julia Willerton
  • Biological Psychology & stress – Chris Gibbons
  • Attachment and early social development – Julia Willerton
  • Memory improvement and revision tools – Julia Willerton

For many this was their first glimpse inside QUB and their first experience of a university style lecture theatre. During the day there were some interesting practical demonstrations and even some spot prizes. After the event, attendees said they felt very well informed about how to tackle their revision and were clear on examination technique. As an added benefit, the presentations were made available to students by email to utilise as part of their own revision.

Such events offer good opportunities to strengthen links with university departments and to network with other schools. Information on Psychology courses at QUB was also available on the day.  Several students on the course are very keen to pursue their academic career in this field and are hoping to return to QUB as first year Psychology students in the future.
