Year 13 AS Geography Field Work, February 2015
On 25 February, eighteen AS pupils travelled to Magilligan Field Centre to take part in fieldwork. They were studying sand dune succession along the Umbra Nature Reserve. The girls collected data relating to plant species, soil pH, light levels, temperature and slope gradient; and each pupil had the opportunity to use a variety of equipment. Despite a few showers, the weather was relatively mild for the time of year. After a few hours out on the sand dunes the girls were ready for a hot meal. The work continued in the evening and the girls worked to collate their data and evaluate the fieldwork.
The data collected from the sand dunes will now form the basis of the girls’ fieldwork element of the AS course, in which they will be examined.
