Glenlola Public Speaking Success

Congratulations to Kyra Gourley (Year 13) for winning first place in the local heat of the Soroptimist International N.I. Public Speaking Competition which was held on the evening of Wednesday 13 November, 2013 at Stricklands Resource Centre, Bangor.

Kyra’s winning six minute speech was on the topic, “ ‘ To Tweet or not to Tweet’ … Is Modern Communication too Intrusive in our Lives?”  Martha Ward (Year 13) also competed and delivered a fine speech on the topic “Education is the Most Important Weapon to Change our World” – Nelson Mandela.

Kyra will represent Glenlola in the N.I. final which is to be held in Glenlola Collegiate on Saturday 22 February 2014.  Thank you to the the Gourley and Ward families for the interest which they showed in the competition and for their support at the event.

Commenting on the competition’s high standards, Mrs Linda McCombe, Head of English said,

“All the competitors provided the audience with very interesting research on a range of topics including organ donation, modern communication, the power of education and obesity.”
