Glenlola girls maths mentor at Bloomfield Primary School

On Tuesday 13 November 11 girls from Glenlola Collegiate took part in a maths fun day in Bloomfield Primary School which was organised and ran by Sentinus Engineering.

The 11 girls – Jan Montgomery, Kerry Gardner, Emma Cameron, Katie Lawther, Naomi Moore, Chloe Brown, Lucy Montgomery, Rachael Shortt, Aimee Callaghan, Emma Taylor and Tori Browne, are all Year 13 pupils in Glenlola and are currently studying AS Level Maths, with many girls also studying Physics.

Throughout the day the girls helped children in Primary 5, 6 and 7 to solve some tricky maths problems.  For example the children had to solve problems to do with money, fractions, symmetry and multiplication.

We feel it was a very enjoyable experience for both the pupils from Glenlola and Bloomfield Primary, and we feel we changed a lot of the young children’s opinions on maths.  The Year 13 girls learnt a lot about working with children, and feel they gained a lot of patience and experience from this great opportunity.

Overall it was a very enjoyable day, with some even more enjoyable sandwiches for lunch!  We would happily take part in an event like this again and would also recommend it to any other girl in Glenlola.
