Year 12 Religious Studies Churches Visit
On Monday 21st and Wednesday 23rd September, our GCSE Full Course Religious Studies students had the opportunity to visit Hamilton Road Baptist Church and St Comgall’s Catholic Church as part of their study of the CCEA GCSE module ‘The Revelation of God and the Christian Church’.
Seeing the churches up close really brought the unit to life for our students. It gave them the opportunity to reflect on the significance of the different furnishings within the different churches, compare the different styles of worship and practice of the sacraments as well as considering the role of the church in contemporary society.
The pupils all found the visit very useful as it provided an insight into the faith that will be invaluable in helping both their understanding and revision of their study. Our thanks go to Keith McIlwaine of Hamilton Road Baptist Church and Father Gunn of St Comgall’s Catholic Church, who kindly welcomed us and provided fascinating, useful and thoroughly enjoyable overviews to supplement the pupils’ knowledge.
