Karate Success

Rachael Fleming a Year 8 pupil at Glenlola Collegiate has fought off steep competition to win gold at the British Karate Championships recently held in Loughborough.

Rachael started Karate when she was 4 years old and trains under Sensais David Brashaw and Kevin and Sam Lewis.

Last year she became the N W Ireland Champion, the All – Ireland silver medallist and gained her first British Champion title.

This year, she won her Gold medal in the Kata Event, competing against other competitors who were 15 years old. She also led her team to a Bronze medal in the Team Kumite Event.

Praising her achievements, Headmaster, Eric Thompson said,

‘This is an outstanding achievement by Rachael who has shown her resilience and determination. We are delighted for her and proud to have a British Champion in our midst.’
