Public Speaking

The main public speaking competition which we focus on during the school year is usually the Soroptimists’ Competition.  This allows at least six pupils from Y12 and Y13 to compete, on an annual basis, in a local heat in November. If successful, they will represent the school in the February N. I. final of the competition.  Pupils will be encouraged to research, plan and deliver a   speech of between four to six minutes. They will develop the skills required in speech writing and in the delivery of their piece, which builds on the work they complete in GCSE English Language, in the area of Speaking and Listening, and in Unit 1 Writing for Purpose and Audience.

Also it is worth mentioning that there are great opportunities for pupils to become involved in Public Speaking in the annual House Competitions for Junior and Middle and Senior School.
