Literacy Club

Junior School pupils (Years 8 -10) are invited to attend Literacy Club when in need of a little extra support and after recommendations have been made by subject teachers. The club takes place on a weekly basis: Year 8 is run by Mrs Wotherspoon (Terms 2 and 3), Mrs Patterson supervises Year 9 and Mrs Graham Year 10.  Each pupil is teamed up with a friendly and helpful Senior School mentor to receive one-to one support in a range of activities such as paired reading of Accelerated Reader books or class novels, spelling and spelling strategies, grammar and comprehension skills.

And the pupils get more out of it than just improved literacy skills: they also get to know their mentor and so gain confidence – and achievement points for attendance – along the way.
