Glenlola Collegiate Raises £10K for Local Charity
Pupils and staff at Glenlola Collegiate School have raised £10,000 for local charity Charlene’s Project. The money was raised through a range of events over the past year including a school sponsored walk, staff participation in the Great North Run and proceeds from the annual Autumn Craft and Gift fair. The charity is named after Charlene Barr, who raised over £100k to build a school in Uganda while in hospital suffering from cystic fibrosis. Charlene’s Project has continued the work after her death to fulfill her dream.
Last year the Glenlola Collegiate was able to provide sufficient funds to put a kitchen into Kahara Primary School in Uganda, as well as donating sports equipment for pupil games. This year’s substantial donation from Glenlola Collegiate will be used to build a kitchen in near-by Kilwara Primary School, allowing over 600 pupils to have a meal in the middle of the long school day. Glenlola pupils hope to visit the new facility next summer.
