Year 13 Geography Fieldwork Report
On Monday 24 February 2014, the AS Geography students headed to Magilligan Field Centre near Limavady to complete a sand dune study. Upon arrival at the centre, Dermott, our guide, gave a short presentation about the dunes. He then explained what we would be doing while we were out on the dunes.
After lunch we layered up and put our fetching waterproofs and wellies on, before heading to the Umbra Nature Reserve. It only took us a short bus ride and walk to reach the first dune on Benone Strand. We were very lucky, as the weather was clear and warm with only a short rain shower towards the end of the day. When we arrived back at the field centre we were welcomed with a hot meal, before heading back to the classroom to collate our results. Before bed, some of us relaxed in the common room playing ping pong and pool and celebrating a birthday with some cake.
On Tuesday morning we went back to the classroom to look over our final results before the bus arrived to take thirty very tired AS Geography students home.
