Tribute to Mrs Maureen Aiken
It was with sadness that the School received news that Maureen Aiken, a former member of the teaching staff at Glenlola Collegiate, passed away at the weekend after a long illness.
Maureen, a former pupil of Glenlola Collegiate, joined the School as a teacher of History in August 1999. During the next 18 years, in addition to the contribution she made to the education of many girls though her excellent teaching, she enriched the Glenlola ethos and community spirit through her widespread involvement in School life. In particular, she was a leading figure in the annual Loreto Shared Education Exchange Programme which has now been running for almost forty years.
Her warm and caring nature combined with a wonderful sense of humour brightened up the staffroom on many a dull day and it was in her role as Head of Pastoral Care that her caring and compassionate nature shone through the most.
Maureen, through her work in the teaching profession enriched the lives of many. She was respected by all who had the privilege to work with her. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
Our condolences go out to her family.
